Environmental Concerns
The Hudson River has come a long way in the past few decades. Each year it gets cleaner and cleaner. The Croton Yacht Club supports the efforts of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in preserving the river.
The following should be noted by all members since they are part of the CYC Standing Rules
Any water hoses used on docks or floats must have a nozzle that shuts off when let go.
Any person caught leaving hazardous materials on the property, docks or in the water (such as used oil, batteries or paint products but not limited to these materials), shall be responsible for any fines levied by any outside agency, plus fines levied at the annual membership meeting. Failure to pay fine will result in an arrears situation and loss of boating privileges may result.
Per CYC Mooring Rules and Regulations
No fueling boats in the basin.
No open fires on any boat floats or docks in the basin, except under normal galley conditions.
Per CYC Intent to Boat Form (signed by each boater)
As of this writing, we, as boat owners are allowed to bottom paint our own boat as long as we sign a written agreement with the marina management. Therefore, the following was added to the "intent to boat" form which is signed by each boater annually. For more information regarding bottom painting in New York State, refer to http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dshm/pesticid/marina.htm
Boat owners who apply antifouling paints are responsible for preventing environmental contamination. The marina's boat painting areas should be located away from the water's edge and in a location that is not susceptible to runoff. Boat owners should monitor their painting activities to ensure that paint chips, paint spills and other wastes from boat painting activities are collected and prevented from contaminating the surrounding area and waters, and are disposed of properly. Each boat owner MUST use a tarp when scraping old paint or applying new paint. Any droppings should be collected and disposed of properly.
Boat owners should be aware that they are subject to enforcement action by the Department of Environmental Conservation if they violate the relevant sections of the Environmental Conservation Law and related regulations, if they do not apply antifouling paint in accordance with the pesticide label, or if they dispose of any wastes improperly.
