Major Equipment
The members of the Croton Yacht Club are very proud of the equipment they procured, built and maintained over the years. This page pays tribute to some of the major items.
The Crane - The Blue Bunny, she is a beautiful piece of machinery. She is a Pettit, circa 1960's, with a capacity of 30 ton (guess?). She underwent a major off-site overhaul back in the 1990s and is due for some minor surgery soon.
This crane is used to pick all the boats out of the basin and return them each spring. She is also rigged to pull docks, breakwater panels or anything else that needs moving. The rigging utilized to pull boats was donated by Hans, one of our associate members. Here's the story as I understand it...Hans designs cranes for a living. A while back, he had the cradle fabricated somewhere in Buffalo and flew it back in his personal plane. There's actually a funny part of the story but I'd rather not share it without Hans' permission first (he also happens to be one big-ass strapping German).
To compliment the crane, we have an assortment of cables, rigging, strapping etc. We also have a basket which allows us to get closer to God or change light bulbs, whichever the case may be.
Pile Driver - Now this is a work of art. Our members actually built this pile driver. They purchased the hull added the tower, cabling, machinery, dual outboards, etc. Building this machine was a team effort and I believe it was lead by Joe and Poul but don't kill me if I missed your name...drop an e-mail.
The pile driver is used to drive 30' lengths of pipe into the basin. This piling keeps the floating docks securely in place. In the fall, the piles are retrieved using the pile driver as well. We also use the pile driver to pull the "mushrooms" at Senasqua Park.
Sporting dual outboards, a large tower, battering ram, cable pulleys, miscellaneous tools, it really is a fine machine. My hard hat goes off to those with the vision and the follow through to put this one together.
Backhoe - She's functional, very useful for cleanup day and moving snow. We also have tongs so we can move pallets around as needed
Work Truck - OK, she's ugly but she never quits. I'm guessing a 1980's vintage DODGE pickup with full-time 4WD and a plow lift in front. No, she doesn't plow anymore, the plow lift is used to move boat trailers about the yard. She also hauls all the blocking and work material as needed. similar to many of our members and their boats, she doesn't leave the premises so I'm guessing she too hasn't gone over 10mph in years...
Misc - There's more such as the welding machine, the power washer and quite an assortment of power tools. These tools are the life-blood of the club and allow us to build the docks and take care of business.
