Announcements:

·         March 21st 2010 – The docks are lined up and half-way pinned.  Get down there and remove your covers, we have an aggressive work crew this year!!!

·         March 01st 2010Saint Patrick’s Day will be held on Saturday March 20th.  In the interest of signing people up early so we can properly prepare, we are reducing the advance sign-up fee:

$25 if PAID before Thursday March 18th, $30 afterwards and at the door

We haven’t selected the band yet

Normal St. Paddy’s day food, Corned Beef, Shepard’s Pie, Potatos, Carrots, Cabbage, etc

·

·         June 14th, 2009 – Interesting article from the New York Times regarding boat clubs.

College Point Yacht Club  - “We’re what you call a working man’s yacht club,” said Mr. Tondo, 60, a retired auto parts dealer, as he stood at the controls of a huge boat lift the other day. He looked at his watch and barked at several other members helping him prepare the next boat to be launched.

For the record, while it isn’t that easy to classify “white vs blue” collar, the CYC is approximately 55% blue collar vs 45% white collar.  We have as many accountants as railroad workers and more bankers than carpenters.

·         June 17th, 2009 -  No Smoking!  It’s official, there is no longer smoking allowed in the club house.  Congratulations to Ray and his helpers for seeing the new awning come to fruition.  It actually looks very natural and is more attractive than most thought.

·         April 05th, 2009 - The basin is OPEN!  There is still more work to be done so please come down for work parties.

·         February 21st, 2009 - The Commodore wants to start perparing the pile drive to be launched ASAP.  If you are free on Saturdays, check with the officers to see if a work party is in order.  The house committee can always use a hand with their project.

·         February 14th, 2009 - The clubhouse improvement project is moving along.  She looks like a new lady with fresh paint, re-finished tables, etc.

·

·         April 12, 2008  -  For those who have not heard, sadly, Rita Buck passed away yesterday evening on April 11th.

Rita was a terrific person with a great smile and awesome personality.  As a three time "first lady" of the CYC and an active participant at the club, her presence was always a pleasure and will surely be missed!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Larry Buck and his daughters.

The wake is Sunday at Carters in Croton from 2pm to 6pm.  The funeral and burial will occur on Monday.

·         April 05th, 2008

The docks are in, most of the electric is on and the water will surely follow!!  Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help make the basin open very early this year.  Yes, that's right, THE BASIN IS OPEN!!

The Journal News Writes This

CROTON-ON-HUDSON - Paul Hoffman, the acting village justice and a pioneer in the field of computers and the law, died Monday.

Hoffman, 74, was found in his office at the time of his death, caused by a heart attack.

An early student of computers who once fixed big mainframes the size of refrigerators, Hoffman wrote "The Software Legal Book," a standard reference in the field, one he updated annually.

A colleague and attorney, Karl Milde, said he was a recognized authority on computer law but always maintained an air of modesty.

"He was like an old country lawyer, very friendly and honest, what you want in a lawyer. And he helped a lot of people," said Milde, a partner in a law firm specializing in patent law and intellectual property.

Hoffman was born in Harrisburg, Pa., on Dec. 12, 1933, to Paul and Lucy Rose Shafer Hoffman. During the Korean War, he served with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division based in the United States. He graduated from Gettysburg College and Harvard Law School.

Hoffman was Croton-on-Hudson's acting justice since 1991, serving on the bench once a month and on an on-call basis. He was previously a member of the village Board of Trustees and a member of the Croton-Harmon Board of Education. He enjoyed sailing on the Hudson River, and his household hosted exchange students from around the world.

He is survived by his wife, the former Pat Rudisill, whom he married in 1958, who lives in Croton. He is also survived by four children and 17 grandchildren.

Visitation will take place tomorrow at Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held there at 11 a.m. Saturday.

·         March 27, 2008 - Here is the obituary from The Journal News:

Paul S. Hoffman, a resident of Croton on Hudson, died suddenly on Monday March 24, 2008. Paul was born in Harrisburg, PA on December 12, 1933. He was a Veteran of the 82nd Airborne, graduated from Gettysburg College in 1957 and Harvard Law School in 1962. Paul was a former Village of Croton Trustee and served on the School Board. He was an acting Judge with the Village of Croton and had a law practice focused on software contracts. Paul was a member of the Rotary Club of Croton, Croton Caring Committee Board and Croton Yacht Club. Paul is survived by his wife Pat; his children Eric (Ruth), Kathryn (Stephen) Verkouw, Julie Smith and Margot (Paul) Rippey and 17 grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM where the services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to The Salvation Army, 120 West 14th St., NY, NY 10011. DORSEY FUNERAL HOME 14 Emwilton Pl.,Ossining 914-941-0167 www.dorseyfuneral.com

·         March 25, 2008 - SAD NEWS - Its with a heavy heart we regret to inform you a longtime member and great friend of CYC passed away yesterday evening.  Paul will be fondly remembered for his cap and his pipe.  Even when he won the brass anchor award for falling in during a work party, his pipe surfaced, still lit way before Paul did.  Paul was famous for traveling the river and working from his boat a good part of the summer.  Twice we've pulled into Catskill Creek and Roundout Creek to be greeted by Paul who was surfing the river and working from his WiFi.  If you've never been engaged in a conversation with Paul, you've missed out on one of life's great treasures.  Funeral Services will be on Friday March 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining.  A private internment will be Saturday with a reception at CYC, at 12:30pm.  The Croton Yacht Club would like to extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the Hoffman family.

·         March 15, 2008 - We expect a full work party.  With some luck, the pile driver will be in  the water and ready to go for Saturday morning.  That means we have to align and pin the docks.  For those new members, it's not the rain or cold that stops a work party, it's the wind.  Show up at 8am or call to see if we're working.  Work parties begin at 8am.

·         March 05, 2008 - Welcome to our new member Rob.  We have one more application and if accepted, this would make five in a row bringing our total membership up to 60!

·         March 01, 2008 - Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause and he is Irish!  This year's St.  Patrick's Day party is being hosted By Kenny S.  It will be on March 15th, starting at 6pm, band starts at 7pm.  $20 per person for the band and food, drinks are the usual cheap bar prices!!  For more information - go here.

·         January 09, 2008 - Tonight was our Annual Meeting where the budget was set and the slate of officers was voted upon.  The slate was approved unanimously.  The web committee would like to congratulate the following:

o    COMMODORE:   Stephen Cappelli

o    VICE COMMODORE:   Ray Clifford

o    REAR COMMODORE:   Dennis Kooney

o    TREASURER:   Sal Alessi

o    FINANCIAL SECRETARY:   Liz Keller

o    SECRETARY:   Walter Schmidt

Also Congratulations to our newest member Gary.  Gary was an associate with us and is relatively new to the Village.  He has a sailboat down on A-Row this year.  Welcome Gary!!

·         December 05, 2007 - Congratulations to our newest member Bob Bruce.  Bob is well known on the Hudson River and is currently the Commodore at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club.  His plan is to maintain his status at both boat clubs.  Sounds like a win-win situation.

·         October 12 - Remember, all boats must be out of the basin by OCTOBER 31st!  Please signup in the clubhouse if you require winter storage or the crane to remove you from the water.

·         October 01 - The breakwater wall has been repaired.  Lets hope it lasts a loooong time!

·         September 02 - The key system is installed but the membership has decided not to activate it until after this season.  This decision was based on the fear not everyone has a key.

·         Sunday, July 08 - We will begin the installation of a security and camera system.  Unfortunately, most of the parking lot will be closed in order to bury electrical conduit to each row.  We will do our best to accommodate everyone and open the lot ASAP.  Soon afterwards, you will need your key-fob to get to the rows off hours.  This is the same key-fob that allows you access to the club.  The goal is to program the gates such that between say 8pm and 8am, you will need your key to access the rows.

·         May 25 - As a reminder from our Standing Rules:

o    No fuelling of boats in the basin

o    Approved marine power cords only for unattended usage (you not there)

o    Keep walk ways free from tripping hazards such as hoses, cords, lines, etc

o    Hoses need auto shut-off nozzles

o    Return all dock carts as soon as possible

o    In general; be safe, courteous and have a great summer!!

Also, if you don't pay for electric, you are allowed to use the electricity for simple items such as vacuuming, boat repairs, periodic charging of a battery, etc.  Plugging in overnight, continuous usage and especially un-attended usage is not allowed.  If you have this need, please pay for the service and use the appropriate equipment.  Do not leave drop cords unattended or permanently plugged in.

The reason:  Fiberglass and dried wood burn really, really fast!  Also, expert opinion says the premature erosion of the seawall is due to electrolysis.  The utilities committee has installed new light stanchions on A-Row and a new panel on A-Row.  We will be vigilant in regards to using the appropriate cords and please, help us keep your cords (and your neighbor's cords) out of the water.

Your cooperation is appreciated - Utilities Committee

·         May 09 - Where is everyone?  Only four boaters showed up on Saturday to launch...come on now, get off your lazy butts and get them boats ready!

·         May 01 - Basin is open, get your boats ready

·         February 23, 2007 - Our dear friend Joke Karpel passed away.  He was a long time member of the club and a valuable asset.  Joe was probably the man you got your new clubhouse key from (he had a beard that rivaled Santa Claus).  A memorial service will be held for Joe on March 31 at 4pm.

·         January 10, 2007 - Congratulations to Mike Murphy and Steve Cappelli for securing permanent positions as Commodore and Vice Commodore respectively.  Thanks to Ray Clifford for stepping up as Rear Commodore.  May the three of you have a quiet 2007 considering all the projects we need to complete around the club (the seawall and the new access road to Croton Landing).

·         January 01, 2007 - Happy New Year.  I trust everyone had a great Holiday Season.  The Christmas party was once again a success.  Thanks to Steve and Melvin for putting on quite the show.  Madeline, the poor unsuspecting wife of Melvin gave birth to a beautiful baby boy at 2:17pm today.  Congratulations to Mom, Dad and big Brother.  Even Liberty Tax can't take a deduction for 2006...darn, missed by 16hrs!!

·         November 13, 2006 - Unfortunately, the CYC suffered a great loss when Donny Buck passed away.  Donny was a recent life member as is his brother Larry as was their Dad Larry Sr.  I had the pleasure of meeting Donny and getting to know him a bit over the last three years.  He was one heck of a guy who would drop what he's doing to help anyone in need.  He will be missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

·         October 29, 2006 - This weekend's high winds caused us to not be able to pull boats.  Being the last weekend to pull boats, it's also the most popular so having to cancel a work party this weekend is costly.  While very frustrating, we must remember to keep safety first.  Please cooperate and try to get your boat out ASAP.  There are often a few retired members who are around during the week so drop in and inquire if you can.  We also plan on having a full work crew Saturday November 04, please show up early with your jack stands/trailer in good working order.

·         August 04, 2006 - A new key system was installed today for the clubhouse.  We were unable to obtain replacement keys for the old system.  If you haven't received your key yet, please come down to the clubhouse and do so.  You might want to call ahead to see if an officer or Joe Karpel is there.  Thanks to Rear Commodore Steve Cappelli for taking on the initiative and seeing it to completion.

·         July 27, 2006 - Repairs to the breakwater wall were completed by White Kirk and White.  This was a subset of the ongoing work that needs to be done.  Also, rumor has it the village has approved the funding for a plan for the new road which will obviously affect our basin.  The summer's been wet but everyone's been having fun.

·         June 24, 2006 - No updates in the last two months but I have been enjoying the summer.  Everything's running smooth at CYC despite the news that the break water wall is falling apart.  Therefore, you'll see White Kirk & White around the club for the next couple of years....always something isn't it.

·         April 24, 2006 - Last weekend's torrential downpour kept us from finishing the guest dock and Senasqua.  Unfortunately, club policy is no boats in basin until pile driver is completely finished....something about navigating that steel brick through all the expensive plastic.

·         March 25, 2006 - The docks are placed and pinned.  More pipes need to be added and more docks need to be built.  Let's hope for an early start to the season.

·         February 11, 2006 - The snowball dance scheduled for this evening has been postponed due to the weather forecast.  The lower half of the ramp was complete during the warm spell at the beginning of the month.  And of course...MelVision - Thanks Melvin and Pete S. for coordinating the new HD Television audio/video system.  The CYC finally has YES and it will be a pleasure watching the Yankees on HDTV, good job!

·         January 15, 2006 - Congratulations to Luke Lattimer and Mike Murphy for advancing in their officer ships.  Luke is now the Commodore and Mike is the Vice-Commodore.  Stepping up to fill Mike's role as Rear Commodore is Stephen Cappelli.  Thanks to all three for providing the necessary leadership to keep the club running like a well oiled machine.  Continuing on the board of directors is Poul, Russ and Joe Consula, thanks gentlemen..  Thanks also to Ken Gabrielsen for returning to the commodore position at a critical time.  With the passing of two officers in a year, there was a vacancy and Kenny returned to fill the void as Luke and Mike also stepped up to the plate.  In the past year, the following was accomplished by Ken, Luke, Mike, committee members and the board and of course the membership as well:

o    All committee heads were filled

o    A vacant slot on the board was filled (thanks Russ!!)

o    The basin was dredged

o    The break water wall was repaired to new condition

o    The critical portion of the ramp was replaced

o    The club house was painted

o    The deck was stained (not once but twice)

o    The yard was cleaned up considerably

o    The shed was replaced with a new storage unit

o    The crane was repaired

o    Paving the parking lot was investigated but unfortunately, deemed unfeasible

o    21 fingers were built and a few mains and a new ramp for A-Row

o    The basin was ready June 01 despite the delays due to dredging

o    New buoy marker lights were purchased and installed a the marina entrance

o    The oil tank is now secure in its own storage unit

o    The over due light stanchions for A-row are on site waiting for the spring

o    Of course....the north star!!

o    Several membership-run social events with fantastic participation

I think we can all be proud of this years accomplishments!!   Thanks to the officers and members who made this happen.

·         January 01, 2006 - The ramp is done....sorta.  Due to the need to get the pile driver out of the water, the contractor and the club have agreed to only do the critical portions of the ramp during the winter months.  The contractor has received half payment and is expected to come back in the spring to do the area from the low-tide water mark to the newly installed slab.  Thanks Russ, Ken, Luke and others who had a hand in making this happen

·         October 31, 2005 - The basin is officially closed to boaters.  Thank you to everyone for cooperating to make the haul-out as smooth as possible.

·         October 26, 2005 -  The board approved an addendum to the intent to boat form regarding bottom paint.  Per DEC requirements, boaters will be required to sign an agreement to use tarps when scraping and painting using anti-fouling paint.  Check here for more information.

·         September 26, 2005 - The haul-out signup sheet is still in the clubhouse....make sure you're on it.  Day sailors, please be sure to remove your vessels by October 15th...we'll need the area for winter storage.

·         September 14, 2005 -  The signup book for winter hauling and/or storage is in the clubhouse.  Please pick a Saturday or , Sunday in October to be hauled and sign up.  Remember winter storage dues are payable at haul-out date.

·         September 13, 2005 - Oktoberfest was an awesome party.  Special thanks to the dirty dozen who prepared the food and to Russ for the after party party.  Hans and his crew of dancers and musicians really had the place jumping!!  Pictures here

·         August 11, 2005 - OKTOBERFEST is nearing.  Sign up if you haven't already done so!!  Click  here  for details about the party.

·         June 20, 2005 - No major news to report.  Most of us are enjoying the boating season and the fruits of our labor.

·         June 09, 2005 - It looks as if the seawall is finished!!!!  Thanks to Joe Pettit and his friends from White, Kirk, White, Red, Blue, Peek-a-boo, I see you , etc for making this happen!!!  Seriously, the place looks great and we've had quite the "year of improvements", thanks once again to Joe Pettit, the officers and everyone else who has contributed to recent improvements.

·         June 04, 2005 - Commissioning day made us all proud to be members of the CYC!!  Commodore Ken did an outstanding job with the opening ceremonies.  Ray exercised a fantastic idea to retire coffin flags in honor of CYC members who offered the ultimate sacrafice while serving our country. Combined with Mayor Schmidt's speech, the attendance of the USCGAUX, Russ playing the taps and an the ceremonial cannon salute, it really was very touching  to see past members honored followed by the ceremonial opening of the basin.

·         May 29, 2005 - The B-Row party was a blast.  Everyone had a great time, there was plenty of food and drink.   Playing lab-rats for Pepsi was fun, lets see if there are any long term effects! (Pictures here)

·         May 20, 2005 - The basin is indeed open and filling up quickly.

·         May 07, 2005 - B and C rows were positioned and pinned.  Unfortunately we ran out of time but there is approximately four hours left of work to be done with the pile driver.  Also, White-Kirk and White are on site and will begin  work on the seawall Monday 5/9.  Thanks again to Joe Pettit for making this happen.

·         May 04, 2005 - Congratulations to Melvin Ramos, our newest working member.  The commodore requests all-hands this Saturday and Sunday.  Also, we will begin working Friday evenings for a few hours trying to get the basin ready and preparing for Saturday mornings.

·         April 30, 2005 - YES, dredging is complete!!  Thank you Joe Pettit, Dan O'Connor(village engineer), Rick Herbek(Village Manager), Mayor Schmidt, ex-Mayor Elliot and the rest of the Croton on Hudson Village Administration for helping us make this happen!!  As I write, the pile driver crew is putting in A-Row!!  Stay tuned for more up to date information.

·         April 27, 2005 - There's a rumor that the dredging is complete.  I'll post more information when the rumor is confirmed.  The dredging machine is still in the basin so who knows the validity.  Bobby is determined to get the basin done in two days once the go-ahead is given so please make sure your boats are ready.

·         April 22, 2005 - The guest dock and Senasqua Park are done!!  The pile driver is working wonderfully.  The commodore asks that everyone gets their boats ready.

·         April 06, 2005 - One of our members, Ray Clifford as a friend who is an Air Force Major flying F-16s.  He has provided Ray with a supply of some very special United States Flags.  Read more about it here.

·         March 23, 2005 - Congratulations to Steve and Amy Cappelli on the birth of their baby girl Savannah Ray.  There's a picture of her at the club and she is beautiful...thank goodness for mom's strong genes!

·         March 21, 2005 - The Saint Patrick's day party was a success!!  I'd like to thank everyone for their participation.  See a few pictures here.

·         March 07, 2005 - We have 65 yes responses to the St. Patrick's Day Party.  Personal invites to our associate members were sent today just to make sure they realize they indeed are welcome.  While doing the mailing, I noticed many associates live in Croton on Hudson.  Is everyone aware they are welcome to join as full members?  Go here for more info.

·         March 07, 2005 - The berm looks fairly complete to me.  They started laying the pipe up to Croton Landing.  This is a positive sign dredging is starting soon.  Let's hope Mother Nature cooperates.

·         March 02, 2005 - We'd like to thank Mrs Kamp and her son for taking the time to show their appreciation to the club and share with us how much the CYC meant to Ted.  It was a very classy move on their part.

·         March 02, 2005 - They started building the "berm" to hold the spoils of the dredging.  We're hoping dredging will be complete by the end of March.

·         Feb 06, 2005 - A good time was had by all at the Superbowl Party.  Special thanks to Sharon and Pete for keeping us well fed.

·         Feb 02, 2005 - Ken Gabrielsen and Luke Lattimer have been appointed Commodore and Vice Commodore for the 2005 season.  Gentlemen, thank you for stepping up to lead us.

·         January 2005 - Ted Kamp, our vice commodore and founding member of Flotilla 67 has passed away.  Ted was a great asset to the club, had a fantastic outlook on life, loved boating and great spirit.  He will always be known for his work party lunches complete with chocolate candies for dessert.  Jimmy Rocket also passed away and will be sorely missed.

·         Jan 16, 2005 - Luke is ordering the wood for the several finger and one main dock  we need to build.  So get your gloves out and start dreaming of spring work parties!

·         Jan 14, 2005 - The annual meeting was held.  Congratulations to Ted Kamp who is our new Vice Commodore and Mike Murphy who stepped up to be the Rear Commodore.  Your dedication is much appreciated.  New rates are posted for 2005.

·         Dec 31, 2004 - Happy New Year - Photo Gallery Added. 2004 pictures done...more to come, check back during the week.

·         Dec 18, 2004 - The Christmas Parties were a success.  Thank you Steve Cappelli for organizing the event, everything was marvellous.  Personally, I had a great time, it was good to meet new people and catch up with those we haven't seen all winter.   The kids had a blast with Santa at the afternoon party as well.  Check the gallery for pictures.

·         Dec 17, 2004 -  the new road was OPENED!!  As part of MNRR's most expedient move (other than raising rates) the Brook Street Crossing was closed the same day!  Access to CYC is via the Half Moon Bay Bridge only.

·         Nov 03, 2004 - Thank you Mr. Pettit and Village Engineer Dan O'Connor for securing the permit for dredging.  As of November 3rd, the bidding for dredging was closed.  We expect to give the go-ahead soon and hope to commence dredging by the end of December..

·         Oct 31, 2004 - On Sunday, October 31st, at 3pm the last boat was removed from the basin.  Thank you to our regular members and associates in cooperating to meet this deadline.
